Jet lighter won't light? Check these 4 things before sending it back

By M.T.T. Hardware, Sampheng · Published · Updated

A jet lighter that won't fire is often something you can check yourself in a few minutes before sending it back. Work through these four points in order; if it still won't light, the next section explains how to get it exchanged.

Four things to check first

1

Slide the lock to On

M.T.T. Lion lighters have a safety lock, and while it sits on Lock the lighter won't fire. On the large model it's the red switch marked On ↔ Lock on the side of the head. Slide it to On and try again.

2

Look at the gas level through the clear body

The body is clear, so you can see the gas inside. If it's low or you can't see any, refill with butane first. Both models are refillable.

3

Turn the gas dial towards +

If the dial marked GAS − / + has been turned all the way down, too little gas comes out to light. Turn it towards + a little at a time and try again.

4

Just refilled? Wait a moment before lighting

After refilling, let the lighter stand for a moment so the gas settles in the tank, then fire it.

Safety when refilling and storing
  • Refill away from flames and heat, and never while the lighter is lit.
  • Keep out of children's reach and away from heat.
  • Slide the switch back to Lock after every use.

Still won't light? What to do next

If a lighter won't light because of a manufacturing fault, tell us on LINE within 7 days with a photo or clip and we'll exchange it.

Record a short clip of you firing it with the switch on On and gas visible in the body, then send it on LINE with the model. We'll tell you what happens next.

For shops buying by the box

Test-fire five pieces as soon as the box arrives, before they go on the shelf. If one still won't light after the four checks, tell us straight away rather than waiting for a customer to return it, because exchanges have a time limit.

Common questions

Why won't my jet lighter light?

Check four things first: the lock is still on Lock, the gas is nearly empty, the gas dial is turned all the way down, or you fired it straight after refilling. If none of those fixes it, the lighter itself may be at fault, so contact us for an exchange.

What gas does the M.T.T. Lion lighter take?

Butane. Both the compact and the large model are refillable.
